To start, load up on fruits and other whole foods. The more you eat whole foods, you avoid the toxins and chemicals that usually lurk in processed packaged food. So you gotta think out of the box!
For raw food dieters, you can't go wrong with loading up on organic locally grown mangoes pictured above. Hit your local farmer's market for these yummers specially if you live in the tropics. If not, then try to get out of the comfy of your town and look for them.
With the magic of the shipping industry these days, you can get just about any tropical fruit from the tree to the fruit ripening corner of your own home.
Besides fruits and veggies, here's a basic vegetarian grocery list you cannot do without:
Grain based faux meat products, they are tasty sauteed with other veggies. It wasn't really chicken you ate, it was faux chicken and it saved the hens and roosters!
Saitan and Tempeh are also great animal flesh substitutes in vegetarian cooking
Veggie Burgers - found in the frozen section of your favorite supermarket. That's if you don't want to make your own veggie burger.
Edamame beans - This is a guilt-free snack of soybean pods that you can steam yourself. They come in a frozen pack. These are known to be loaded with nutrients that are great for both pre and post menopausal women.
Chickpeas - for making those creamy hummus for dips and in place of that fat-laden mayonnaise!
Nuts and Seeds - Nuts are good fats and very good sources of protein
How about protein? No worries! Virtually every vegetable specially green leafy veggies are packed with this nutrient. Yes, even fruits carry this nutrient. So chill out about the protein issue.
