No need for a crazy complicated vegetarian vegan food list to stick to a vegan lifestyle. Below is a non-comprehensive vegetarian grocery list.

Let us kinda guide you with a simple vegetarian vegan food list to make you become a die hard vegetarian on the planet. 

To start, load up on fruits and other whole foods. The more you eat whole foods, you avoid the toxins and chemicals that usually lurk in processed packaged food. So you gotta think out of the box!

For raw food dieters, you can't go wrong with loading up on organic locally grown mangoes pictured above. Hit your local farmer's market for these yummers specially if you live in the tropics. If not, then try to get out of the comfy of your town and look for them.

With the magic of the shipping industry these days, you can get just about any tropical fruit from the tree to the fruit ripening corner of your own home.

Besides fruits and veggies, here's a basic vegetarian grocery list you cannot do without:

  • Milk Alternatives such as nut milks like soy, almond, hemp or rice milk
  • Vegan Cheeses that do not contain dairy - Yes, they are available without the sight of a cow!
  • Tofutti Cream cheese is a favorite substitute to animal based cream cheese. They come in different flavors too! 
  • Tofu - Extra Firm ones for cooking and silken type for smoothies and sauces. It's a must for a high protein vegetarian foods list.
  • Tofurkey is jam packed with protein and an amazing meat substitute
  • Grain based faux meat products, they are tasty sauteed with other veggies. It wasn't really chicken you ate, it was faux chicken and it saved the hens and roosters!
  • Saitan and Tempeh are also great animal flesh substitutes in vegetarian cooking
  • Veggie Burgers - found in the frozen section of your favorite supermarket. That's if you don't want to make your own veggie burger.
  • Edamame beans - This is a guilt-free snack of soybean pods that you can steam yourself. They come in a frozen pack. These are known to be loaded with nutrients that are great for both pre and post menopausal women.
  • Chickpeas - for making those creamy hummus for dips and in place of that fat-laden mayonnaise!
  • Nuts and Seeds - Nuts are good fats and very good sources of protein
  • Dried Legumes and Beans - for making those amazing vegetarian bean recipes with rice specially our favorite vegetarian chili.
  • Nut butters like peanut butter or almond-cashew butters
  • Fruit spreads like Apple butter are great on toasted sprouted breads
  •  Fresh fruits for snacks, simple desserts and juices
  •  Green veggies for your vegetarian vegan salads.
  • Rice - they will make up a lot of vegetarian Asian dishes
  • Sprouted Breads are usually found in the frozen section.
  • Rolled oats or Groats for hot cereals
  • Herbs and Spices including Himalayan Sea Salts
  • Tamari Soy Sauce for organic flavoring with no MSG
  • Raw Honey, unpasturized and organic
  • Apple Cider Vinegar with mother is great for everything from food to home cures and a whole lot of other things.
  • Other condiments and sauces like salad dressings, salsa, vegan mayonnaise, hot sauce and tomato sauces
  • Free range eggs and egg substitutes, nutritional yeast, tahini and pickles

... and so on and so forth. There are just too many to list, so those are just the basics to get you started.

How about protein? No worries! Virtually every vegetable specially green leafy veggies are packed with this nutrient. Yes, even fruits carry this nutrient. So chill out about the protein issue.
